(More customer reviews)I don't get it. First I bought the AT&T 992, regardless of the bad reviews, because I've always liked the sound and feel of AT&T phones. Unfortunately, right out of the box, that phone didn't work. (You can read my review entitled: Great If You Don't Need The Number 9!) I returned it, thinking I might just get another one, but decided to try this RCA instead.
I like the features and the design of this phone, and setup was quick and simple. So, what's the problem? No one can hear me. That's right, the handset doesn't work . . . nothing, not a peep. I tried plugging in an old handset and that worked but was incredibly distorted. I then discovered that, if I yell really loudly, you can sort of hear my distored voice through the RCA handset. I tried changing cables but it just doesn't work.
The handset is much lighter and flimsier than the AT&T but, on the AT&T the number 9 didn't work. Why is it so hard to get a little quality control?
I haven't decided if I'm going to give RCA or AT&T another chance. I want a corded, 2-line, phone with Caller ID and no answering machine. I want individual volume controls for both lines and, I don't think it's too much to ask, I want to be able to speak on the phone AND use the number 9.
