I could let it alone but if you're gone from home for a couple of days you won't know what time messages were left. I do have a problem w/ the battery hold it's charge for a long time if not set back up on the phone charge cradle. The reason I bought the phone is I had the same model back in 2004 and the hand held piece of the phone the numbers and letters were worn away and getting dirty around the edges of the hand held because of you not washing your dirty hands before using the hand held
