(More customer reviews)I think this phone, and more generally DECT cordless phone technology, are very good ideas. The benefits I've noticed with this phone are increased range, better call quality and pretty much zero conflict with my home wireless network. The Bluetooth feature for pairing with your cell phone is OK, but ultimately I didn't end up using it as much as I thought I would. Really this would be best suited for someone who primarily uses their cell and isn't worried about over-extending their mobile phone plan by using it even when home. It is a convenience to be able to consolidate your home and mobile calling activity in one handset, but to some degree this feature is rendered obsolete (in my opinion) by something like Google Voice that will basically provide the same kind merging of your phone traffic, and do it for free.
The biggest gripe I have with the phone is quality/durability. After a year or so, I started noticed that the handsets would intermittently lose their connection to the base. A message like "searching for base" would appear in the phone display, and it wouldn't be able to make or receive calls until you unplugged the base unit AND re-seated the battery in each handset! This was a nuisance at first, but it began happening more and more frequently after 2 years or so of use, to the point that the phone is practically non-functional now. I really don't think there is any plausible explanation for this issue in terms of signal interference, given that is what DECT technology is meant to expressly solve. It's more likely there is something physically wrong with the phone. On top of that, now one of the handsets has what I'm guessing is a depleted battery, as it won't even turn on anymore. 2 years seems a little fast for a battery to die, and it's also fair to point out that since there are 2 handsets included with the product, it's not like only 1 handset bore the brunt of our usage the whole time; we probably split call time on both phones.
I think DECT phones are the way to go, and I plan on buying another one. However, I will not, in all likelihood, purchase another AT&T DECT phone.
